Chai

Today's topic of the day is chai.

What is chai?

In one word: Heaven.

Ok.  What is it really?

Let's go with masala chai because that's my favorite.... cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, masala, and black assam tea made with milk and sugar.

It is chai season.  It's chilly enough that it's definitively hot tea season, but today was a gluttonous chai day.

    Additional PSA for your readers...

    chai = tea.
    masala = spices.
    masala chai, therefore, means "spiced tea", and is usually made with the tea leaves brewed in milk (or a milk/water split), plus a variation of spices depending on where you live (I tend to cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves; I hear they use black pepper in Kashmir).

    The chai most Americans & Canadians get at Starbucks/Local Coffee Shop Equivalent is masala chai - therefore asking for "a chai tea latte" is asking for a "tea-brewed-in-milk tea with milk".

  2. Thank you. :)

    I got my masala chai at the Indian restaurant today, so I completely cheat.

  3. I'll have to bring you a sample of my blend. It is yummy. It is a blend of passionfruit, rooibos vanilla chai, and cinnamon.
